Is it a good idea to allow changing the name of a place? I can't test it at the moment because the test-page seems not to have this feature enabled.

Yes, it is. If you mistyped a location, it will be very good that you can correct your typo. The slug will be automagicly renamed, but that reminds me, that I should add a check if a location with the same name already exists.
